Support Saving Grace while watching the Twilight Criterium - July 23, 2016
What’s better than watching the Cascade Cycling Classic’s annual Twilight Criterium in downtown Bend with friends? Supporting a good cause—and noshing on tasty food and drinks—while you do it!
Bluebird Coffee Company is hosting its fourth annual Bird’s Nest fundraiser Saturday, July 23 from 5 to 9 pm. Watch the cyclists whir through downtown Bend while enjoying a catered dinner from Tate & Tate as well as beer from Worthy Brewing and a selection of wines. Each guest also gets their very own cow bell to cheer on the peloton. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased in advance or day of the event at Bluebird Coffee Company (550 NW Franklin Ave.).
The evening’s menu includes: hamburgers and hotdogs, honey roasted bone in chicken, potato salad mango chutney coleslaw, slice southwest chicken breast, sliced tri-tip, chef salad toppings, garden salad with two house dressings, vegetable crudites with roasted red pepper dip, seasonal fresh fruit, bread and butter, cookies and brownie bites.
The Twilight Criterium is the most spectator-friendly stage of the Cascade Cycling Classic and involves cyclists racing at speeds up to 50 miles per hour around a short, elliptical course through downtown Bend. The popular event regularly attracts 10,000 to 15,000 spectators.
"For spectators it is really one of the most exciting things to watch," Molly Cogswell-Kelley, a spokesperson for the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation, told the Source. "It's the longest running stage race in the nation. People who don't even care about bike racing come down for this." For those who care about ending domestic and sexual violence, the event is a perfect pairing.
