Restraining orders, also known as protection orders or orders of protection, are a critical legal tool in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV). These court-issued directives are designed to protect victims from further harm and harassment by restricting the abusive partner's contact or proximity to the survivor. They can prohibit the abuser from approaching the victim, their home, workplace, or children. Restraining orders are an important step in providing immediate relief and safety for survivors of IPV, helping them regain a sense of control over their lives. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that they are just one piece of the larger puzzle in addressing IPV. Effective enforcement, comprehensive support services, and community awareness are equally important in ensuring the safety and well-being of survivors

Restraining order applications are available for free at the Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook County courthouses. Please phone the Saving Grace hotline (541) 389-7021 to arrange for help with filling out and filing restraining orders.
